I’ve had some great opportunities in the last couple of years to speak at a few different worship conferences around the country and one thing I noticed is that there was really only a small percentage of leaders that were actually able to attend versus the thousands that could never afford to attend conferences like those. I then began to wonder about the possibility of putting on free worship conferences on the days of my solo concerts for local worship leaders. Over the last year however, God has really been at work in me and in our staff at Journey Church here in Franklin. It’s as if God has been relentlessly calling us as Elders to soul health and balanced life, not settling for status quo relationships or plastic facades frozen in the public eye as if we had no doubts, made no mistakes, or kept any secrets. We’re learning to lead with transparency and grace and God is using it to bring genuine worship and growth to our people. Basically what we’ve figured out is that you can’t effectively pastor people and offer life in Christ if your own is jacked up and full of pretense. Seems like a reasonable leadership strategy, but how many of us allow crap and struggle in our lives to layer over our hearts with no plans to change anything and still stand week after week before our people broken, lonely, and in need of someone to listen and not judge. It’s from this desire to see healing and abundant life in the lives of my friends and co-laborers in the church that I’ve been working to put together the {Re:Focus} conference coming up Tuesday April 28th and Wednesday April 29th. I’ve asked several amazing leaders and friends of mine to come and share with whomever will come and join us. We’ll meet at Central Baptist College at 2pm on the 28th in the Auditorium.
